Coaching is never about the Coach

I was recently at a party given to celebrate the appointment of a senior figure, who having used a specialist consultant to navigate the somewhat arcane application process, had previously fallen at the final interview hurdle. In his speech, he reflected that on coming to me for help, I took all of the ‘nonsense’ and ‘HR speak’ out of the process and got him mentally and academically prepared in a way that was comfortable for and accessible to him.

As coaches we don’t prove our credibility by showcasing what we know and can do, we prove it by unlocking what is inside a client and helping them express it into the world in a clear, authentic and safe way.
